22 October 2019 – The Medical Response Team of the Philippine Embassy in Kuwait’s Assistance to National’s (ATN) Unit participated in the “Antibiotic Awareness Campaign 2019 – Handle Antibiotic with Care” at Ibn Sina Hospital on 22 October 2019.
The campaign was spearheaded by the Infection Control Directorate (ICD) of Kuwaiti’s Ministry of Health, which targets physicians, health care providers, pharmacists, and the general public.
The Embassy was briefed by the health officials on the proper use of antibiotics, particularly its do’s and dont’s. One of the topics discussed during the forum was about antibiotic resistance, which happens when bacteria changes and becomes resistant to the antibiotic, compromising the antibiotic’s ability to treat infectious diseases, and ultimately undermining advances in the field of medicine.
The Embassy was reminded that antibiotics should be handled with care to ensure its continued effectiveness.
The event aims to promote appropriate antibiotic usage for patients in Kuwait through dissemination of information and adoption of best practices.
As part of its duty to ensure the welfare and well-being of overseas Filipinos in Kuwait with illness, the Embassy’s Medical Response Team regularly undergo trainings and workshops to increase their knowledge in the field of medicine. The antibiotics forum is important since the Embassy provides logistical and financial assistance to Filipinos who are confined in Kuwaiti hospitals.
Among the Embassy’s ATN services are referrals to hospitals and clinics in Kuwait, hospital visits, facilitation of Filipino patients’ hospital expenses, and repatriation of Filipino patients to the Philippines. END
