15 August 2019 Close to 300 Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) in Kuwait are now one step closer in becoming licensed Filipino professionals, as they took the Special Professional Licensure Examination (SPLE) that was held from 12 to 14 August 2019 at the Kuwait Disabled Sport Club Gymnasium.

The Professional Regulation Commission (PRC)—in partnership with the Philippine Embassy in Kuwait, the Philippine Overseas Labor Office (POLO) in Kuwait, the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) in Kuwait, and the Philippine Professional Organization (PPO) Kuwait Chapter under the leadership of its President Engr. Rogelio U. Mejorada—successfully staged this year’s edition of the SPLE, the fourth time the exam was administered in the Gulf state.

In a statement, Embassy Chargé d’Affaires, a.i. Mohd. Noordin Pendosina N. Lomondot welcomed the conduct of the SPLE in Kuwait “as a way for Overseas Filipino Workers to acquire their respective professional licenses and increase their job qualifications without the need to take the exam in the Philippines.”

“Through the SPLE, which we have been staging annually since 2016, more OFWs will be able to secure their PRC licenses that will give them better employment prospects as well as more opportunities to develop their skills in their chosen line of work. I commend all those instrumental in the success of this year’s SPLE, including all Filipino professional organizations in Kuwait,” Chargé d’Affaires Lomondot added.

A total of 278 OFWs in Kuwait took this year’s SPLE, which covered the following professions: Accountancy, Architecture, Civil Engineering, Dentistry, Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Elementary and Secondary Education, Environmental Planning, Master Electrician, Master Plumbing, Mechanical Engineer, Midwifery, Nursing, Physical Therapy, Phsychometrics, Radiologic Technology, and Respiratory Therapy.

In a show of bayanihan among Filipino community members in Kuwait, the Embassy, PRC, POLO, OWWA and PPO joined hands in providing assistance to OFWs who are taking the three-day licensure examination. Several Filipinos also took advantage of Kuwait’s week-long Eid’l Adha holidays to volunteer during the exam, either as proctors or as support staff from sunup until sundown.

“With the belief that the SPLE will return to Kuwait next year, I hope that more OFWs will avail themselves of this special offer from the government to get their PRC licenses here in Kuwait, and that more will see the benefits of taking the exam for their professional growth and development,” Chargé d’Affaires Lomondot concluded.
